The government has approved a nine per cent salary increase for all public sector workers under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for the 2026 fiscal year.  The National Tripartite Committee has also agreed to a nine per cent adjustment to the national daily minimum wage, which currently stands at GH¢19.97.

The increment, which consequently pegs the new minimum wage at GH¢21.77, takes effect from January 1 to December 31, 2026. The agreement, signed yesterday between the Government — represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) — and Organized Labor, followed successful negotiations aimed at ensuring stability in the public sector.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, commended Organized Labor for their cooperation and patriotism, insisting that the increment aligned with ongoing efforts to sustain Ghana’s economic recovery, a statement by the Tripartite Committee said. The minister reiterated the government's commitment to further reducing inflation and improving conditions of service for workers.

He added that the government had pledged to stabilize the economy during the 2025 base pay negotiations and had delivered on that commitment.  The minister further stated that the Ministry of Finance, together with the FWSC, would continue to improve conditions of service for public sector workers, ensuring that all approved provisions were implemented.

The Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, applauded both sides for the constructive engagement that led to the agreement, emphasizing the government's dedication to maintaining labor satisfaction and economic stability. The Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr George Smith-Graham, thanked Organized Labor for being part of the country’s economic recovery.

The Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, acknowledged labors' sacrifices in accepting the nine per cent increase, and urged the government to avoid new taxes or tariff hikes that could erode its value. Mr. Ansah further urged the government to honor all commitments made during the negotiations to protect workers’ welfare.

A communique issued on the National Daily Minimum Wage was jointly signed by the Minister of Labor, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, and the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, for government; Dr Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodie signed on behalf of the Ghana Employers Association, and the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, signed on behalf of Organized Labor.

On the other hand, the agreement on the base pay was jointly signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr George Smith-Graham, for Government and Mr. Ansah for Organized Labor.

The signing was witnessed by the finance minister for the government and the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, for Organized Labor.
