Residents of Gyakye, a farming community in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region, are calling for urgent intervention over the poor condition of their only access road.

According to residents, the deteriorating road is affecting transportation, farming activities and access to education.

They allege that heavy timber trucks frequently use the route and may be contributing to its deteriorating condition.

Community members say approximately 150 school children are experiencing difficulties commuting to school, as some drivers reportedly avoid the road because of its condition.

“Our children find it difficult using the road to school. Some of the children get to school late while others sometimes stay home,” a resident said.

Farmers also report difficulties transporting produce to markets, raising concerns about the effect on economic activity within the community.

The residents are appealing to the Municipal Chief Executive of Sefwi Wiawso and relevant authorities to intervene and address the condition of the road.
