President John Dramani Mahama says the new float glass manufacturing factory being built at Shama in the Western Region will produce 1,400 tons of glass every day when it reaches full capacity.

‎Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony of the 250 million US dollar project Tuesday February 24, 2026, President Mahama said the factory will become one of the largest float glass production facilities in Africa when completed.

He explained that the project will be done in two phases. Phase One will produce 600 tons of glass per day, while Phase Two will add 800 tons daily, bringing total production to 1,400 tons each day.

‎The President said the factory will not only serve the local market but will also export glass to other African countries, Europe and other international destinations.

‎President Mahama noted that in 2024 alone, Ghana imported more than 65,000 tons of glass products valued at nearly 25 million dollars to meet demand in the construction, automobile and manufacturing sectors. He said the new factory will reduce imports, save foreign exchange and strengthen Ghana’s supply chain.
