Ghana’s Nancy Bamfo Bows Out of Glasgow 2026 After Points Defeat to Jersey’s Nicole Clyde

Ghana’s Nancy Bamfo has been eliminated from the women’s 54kg boxing competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after losing by unanimous decision to Jersey’s Nicole Clyde in the Round of 16 preliminary bout.

Bamfo entered the contest hoping to keep Ghana’s women’s boxing hopes alive, but Clyde took control early and secured a 5-0 victory after three rounds at the Games.

The Jersey boxer started strongly, with all five judges awarding her the opening round 10-9. Bamfo responded in the second round, showing resilience and improved aggression as she managed to win the round on two of the five judges’ scorecards. However, Clyde maintained her overall advantage, taking the round on the remaining three scorecards.

In the final round, Clyde delivered a decisive performance, with all five judges scoring the round 10-8 in her favour to seal the victory. The final scorecards were 30-26, 30-26, 29-27, 29-27 and 30-26, all in favour of Clyde.

Despite the defeat, Bamfo showed determination throughout the bout and produced a spirited second-round display as she attempted to fight her way back into contention. The result brings an end to Bamfo’s Glasgow 2026 campaign in the women’s 54kg category, while Clyde advances to the next stage of the competition.

Ghana’s remaining athletes will now continue their pursuit of medals as Team Ghana looks to make an impact at the Commonwealth Games.
